It is highly recommended that you consult your GP and a health or exercise professional before commencing an exercise program to avoid any complications.

1

DIABETES MANAGEMENT EXERCISE

DME is a 45-to-60-minute exercise class designed for individuals to better manage their Type 2 diabetes or have pre-diabetes. This program will be in a medium group setting of up to 8 to 10 people with pre & post assessments each session to monitor your health status. Our passionate and energetic exercise physiologists will guide you through a tailored exercise program consisting of aerobic and resistance/strength exercises to better manage your diabetes, reduce co-morbidities such as stroke/hypertension and improve mental and social well-being.

2

AEROBIC EXERCISE

Aerobic exercise is repeated and continuous movement of large muscle groups that rely primarily on aerobic energy systems. It is also commonly known as “cardio exercise”, including activities such as walking, running or cycling. They are exercises targeting the heart and lungs by making them work hard for a few minutes. Ultimately, training them to get stronger and healthier. The benefits of aerobic exercise are improved insulin sensitivity, improved blood glucose control and blood lipid profiles, improved aerobic fitness, weight reduction, blood pressure reduction and improved quality of life.

3

resistance exercise

Resistance/strength exercise targets each major muscle group against a load or a resistance. They include body weight exercises or the use of weights, exercise machines or resistance bands. Strengthening your muscles aiming to increase insulin sensitivity and attain optimal glucose levels, improving balance, increasing muscular strength, power and improving the ability to do functional tasks for an improved quality of life.
A study has demonstrated that 2 sessions of exercise class per week for 16 weeks increases 46% in insulin action, 7% reduction in fasting blood glucose and a significant loss of visceral fat in newly diagnosed diabetic individuals.

4

bone builder

Bone builder is a 45-to-60minute exercise class designed for individuals to improve their bone health and muscular fitness. This program will be in a small group setting of up to 4 people with pre & post assessments each session to monitor your health status. Our passionate and energetic exercise physiologists will guide you through a tailored exercise program consisting mainly of resistance/strength exercises to improve muscular strength, reduce disease or injury progression and achieve your individual needs and goals.
Resistance exercises are the best for your bones. They target each major muscle group against a load or a resistance. They include body weight exercises or the use of weights, exercise machines or resistance bands. Strengthening your muscles prevents risk of falls, increasing bone mineral density, and manages symptoms related to osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. This program also aims to improve your ability to do functional tasks for an improved quality of life.

5

falls prevention

When improving balance, coordination and mobility, this will improve your muscular strength, coordination and flexibility. Studies have also suggested that resistance exercise programs with high challenge to balance for at least once a week foster greater falls prevention effects. While we do understand that it is impossible to completely prevent a fall, what we can do is to focus on strengthening our muscles to enable us to have better balance and coordination reducing the risk of future falls.
In addition to making your bones and muscles stronger and fending off a host of diseases, resistance training can also reduce depression, boost self-confidence, self-esteem and improve your sense of well-being. Ultimately, increasing your ability to do activities of daily living independently and therefore improving your quality of life overall.

employment assessments

Pre-Employment Medical Assessments are carried out to ensure an employee is fit to work in a specific environment. The assessment evaluates the employee’s ability to fulfil the requirements of a role. The pre-employment assessment also screens the employee for risk factors through functional testings. Functional testings include assessing the employee’s range of motion, upper and lower limb strength, lifting technique and cardiovascular function. Our exercise physiologist will deliver this assessment and ensure the health and safety of the employee as it is essential and key to optimising company productivity.
